Jesuits Sell Ancient Gospel to British Library For £9 Million

The Jesuits have sold the historic St Cuthbert Gospel – believed to be the oldest intact book produced in Europe – to the British Library for £9 million.

The British Province of the Society of Jesus agreed to sell the late seventh-century Anglo-Saxon manuscript to raise funds to restore a historic church and pay for educational work in London and Glasgow, Scotland. Read more »

Selangor MB: Selangor Regrets Raid, Ask JAIS For Report

CFM: Christians Appalled By JAIS Church Raid

The Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) is deeply shocked and appalled at the raid by the officers of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) and the police conducted on the premises of the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) on the evening of 3rd August 2011.

Ambiga Fails To Challenge Sarawak Deportation Order

Bersih 2.0 chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan today failed in her bid to challenge an order for her deportation order from Sarawak by the state immigration department last April during its polls.

This follows the Kuala Lumpur High Court's dismissal this morning of Ambiga's application for leave (permission) to initiate a judicial review proceeding over the order. Read more »

Court Ruling Pending On Ambiga's Leave Application

Bersih 2.0 chief Ambiga Sreenevesan will know today whether or not she can pursue a review of her deportation and refusal of entry into Sarawak during the state election last April.

It is understood that Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Justice Rohana Yusuf will have to consider preliminary objections raised by Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud - one of three respondents in Ambiga's suit - before she can allow the case to proceed. Read more »

Pakistan Muslim Leaders Apologize For Anti-Christian Violence

Two years on from one of Pakistan’s worst outbreaks of anti-Christian violence Muslim leaders have publicly apologised to people who lost loved ones, homes and businesses.

First asylum seekers to be sent to Malaysia by Australia

The Australian Navy on Sunday intercepted a boat of refugees headed for the country, and took them to Christmas Island.

Shamala's Lawyers Told To Discharge Themselves

The family of nurse S Shamala - who is embroiled in a legal battle for custody of her children following her husband's conversion to Islam - has instructed her lawyers to discharge themselves.

However, the Court of Appeal would not allow this to take effect until the lawyers can officially inform Shamala, who is said to be living in Australia with her two sons.

EO Detainee: SB Officers Failed To Brainwash Me

Hours of daily grilling by Special Branch officers have failed to indoctrinate newly released EO detainee Choo Chon Kai to forsake his beliefs.

Instead, the many sessions over a period of one month made the 33-year-old PSM central committee member, who was released on Friday, more committed to the struggle for a fair and democratic Malaysia.

"There was no physical (abuse)... only brainwashing methods meant to cripple my spirit. They even went into the minute details of my life," Choo said, when interviewed by Malaysiakini following his release. Read more »

PSM’s EO6 Released Without Conditions

The police today released the six PSM leaders who had been held without trial under the Emergency Ordinance since July 2.

“The six have been released unconditionally. It is official,” said their legal counsel D Yudistira after a meeting with CID deputy director Hadi Ho Abdullah.

They were released at 5.30pm at the Sentul police district headquarters in Jinjang. Read more »

Tomb Of Saint Philip The Apostle Found In Turkey

The tomb of Saint Philip, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ was discovered in Pamukkale (the ancient city of Hierapolis), in Turkey.

Vatican Insider reports that Italian archaeologists Francesco D’Andria who headed the team pointed out that the tomb has not yet been opened but that it will be sooner or later. The report further quotes D’Andria who said that the discovery is “of primary importance to archaeology and to the Christian world.” Read more »
