Ops Kuningan Malaysia

The BERSIH 2.0 movement for electoral reform does not end with the 9 July rally.

Malaysians wishing for free and fair elections must not forget that the 8 immediate demands for Perhimpunan BERSIH 2.0 have yet to be achieved.

BERSIH 2.0 calls on all supporters of free and fair elections to continue participating in shaping a more democratic Malaysia. We encourage everyone to wear YELLOW on Saturday as a symbol of support. BERSIH 2.0 will continue OPS KUNINGKAN MALAYSIA until our electoral system is reformed to ensure free and fair elections.

The BERSIH 2.0 global solidarity rallies around the world were made possible because individuals in each country decided to organise it. That is the power of individual action.

Similarly, BERSIH 2.0 would also like to encourage individuals to initiate their own OPS KUNINGKAN MALAYSIA events on Saturday.

Here is a guideline on how you can organise your own OPS KUNINGKAN MALAYSIA event:

- MAKAN MINUM KUNING! Malaysians’ favourite past time typically involves eating. Just pick a mealtime (breakfast, lunch, tea, dinner or supper) and location and spread the word!

- WAYANG KUNING! Planning to watch the latest movie release? Set a movie time, date and cinema location and flood the cinema with yellow.

- PERKELAHAN KUNING! Take advantage of the good weather and have a potluck picnic. Pick a nice park (or beach if you live near one), bring some mats and get people to bring a dish to share. Make sure the dishes are halal and beef-free.

- KUNINGKAN HUTAN RIMBA! If you are a fan of outdoor activities, organise a trekking trip at your nearest hill/jungle.

These are just some ideas for activities. We are certain that you have more creative ideas for events.

- Wear anything yellow: Scarf, shoes, socks, necklace, contact lenses, shirt, pants, hat, dress and etc.

- Share #BersihStories: What did you do on 9 July? What persuaded you to go for the rally? If you didn’t go for the rally, how did you show support for BERSIH 2.0? What was your experience at the rally like?

- Discuss 8 demands: What do you think about BERSIH 2.0’s immediate demands? Are they reasonable? Why do you support the demands? What has been the response of the Election Commission lately?

- Collect signatures for the petition to free the 6 Parti Sosialis Malaysia leaders who are detained under the Emergency Ordinance for supporting BERSIH 2.0. Download the petition.

- Take action: Is everyone interested in taking further action or are they happy with showing support? Do they want to write letters/start a petition/organise another OPS KUNINGKAN MALAYSIA event?

- Take pictures! And send them to info@bersih.org or post them on the BERSIH 2.0 Official Facebook Page

- Once you set the details of the event, you can create a Facebook event page.

- Email your event details with the link to the event page to info@bersih.org

- The BERSIH 2.0 Secretariat will compile and publicise a weekly schedule of OPS KUNINGKAN MALAYSIA events.

We hope that Malaysians in every state and town will initiate their own OPS KUNINGKAN MALAYSIA events.
