CLS 25th Anniversary Annual Dinner And Dance 2019

The Catholic Lawyers’ Society (“CLS”) held their annual Dinner & Dance in conjunction with its 25th Anniversary on the 5th of October, 2019 at the Renaissance Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

This year in conjunction with its Silver Jubilee, the Society decided to raise funds for the Positive Living Community (“PLC”). The PLC is a shelter that provides care and support for homeless men stricken with HIV/AIDS. Read more »

CLS Press Statement: SUHAKAM Inquiry Panel's Findings

The conclusion of the SUHAKAM Inquiry Panel on the disappearance of Amri Che Mat and Pastor Raymond Koh; that they are victims of enforced disappearances carried out by the Special Branch, Bukit Aman, Kuala Lumpur, is very disturbing.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Icon Has Colourful History

The origin of the icon that is at the center of devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help is unknown.

Many have thought that St. Luke painted it, but its existence prior to the late Middle Ages cannot be confirmed.

Red Mass 2019 - Prayer & Humility fundamentals for Christian life

Approximately 70 odd Catholic Lawyers gathered at St John’s Cathedral to begin the legal year with the celebration of the Red Mass.

Bar Council: Redelineation Proposals Are Fundamentally Flawed, Inherently Unfair, And Unconstitutional

The Malaysian Bar is deeply disturbed by the overall manner in which the redelineation exercise was conducted by the Election Commission (“EC”), leading up to and including the indecent haste in which the EC’s redelineation proposals were tabled and passed by the Dewan Rakyat on 28 March 2018.

The redelineation exercise was dogged by procedural issues from the very beginning, starting from the redelineation exercise for the state of Sarawak, the proposals for which were presented for public review in January 2015. Read more »

Red Mass Kuching 2018

The Red Mass, a mass celebrated annually in the Catholic Church to offer prayers for those in the legal profession, was held at Holy Trinity Church, Kuching, on the 20th January 2018, coinciding with the opening of the new Legal Year in Sarawak.

The Archbishop of Kuching, His Grace Most Reverend Simon Poh celebrated the mass that was attended by lawyers and judges amongst others. Read more »

Father Norbert, "A Gentle, Patient And Loving Spirit" Passes Away...

Our dearly beloved priest, brother, uncle, cousin and friend Fr. Norbert Choong Kai Chong was born on 6 June 1936 in Ipoh, Malaysia.  He was the son of the late Paul Choong Choon Hean and the late Mary Tsung Soo Khuan. 

He was preceded in death by three brothers, George, John and Joseph and two sisters, Magdalene and Elizabeth Choong. Read more »
