Red Mass Kuching 2018

The Red Mass, a mass celebrated annually in the Catholic Church to offer prayers for those in the legal profession, was held at Holy Trinity Church, Kuching, on the 20th January 2018, coinciding with the opening of the new Legal Year in Sarawak.

The Archbishop of Kuching, His Grace Most Reverend Simon Poh celebrated the mass that was attended by lawyers and judges amongst others. Read more »

Red Mass Celebration Kuala Lumpur 2018 - Remain Steadfast To Your Original Goodness

The call to remain steadfast to one’s original goodness was echoed by His Lordship Bishop Bernard Paul during his sermon at the 24th Annual CLS Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit or commonly known as the Red Mass on Saturday, 20th January 2018.

Father Norbert, "A Gentle, Patient And Loving Spirit" Passes Away...

Our dearly beloved priest, brother, uncle, cousin and friend Fr. Norbert Choong Kai Chong was born on 6 June 1936 in Ipoh, Malaysia.  He was the son of the late Paul Choong Choon Hean and the late Mary Tsung Soo Khuan. 

He was preceded in death by three brothers, George, John and Joseph and two sisters, Magdalene and Elizabeth Choong. Read more »

Red Mass 2017 – “Listen To God’s Voice To Do What Is Right”

His Grace, Archbishop Julian Leow, called on Catholic Lawyers to listen to God’s voice and to do what is right and speak the truth. He encouraged lawyers not to fear man, rather to fear God.

He made this call during his sermon at the Annual Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit (Red Mass) held at the Church of The Sacred Heart of Jesus, Peel Road, Kuala Lumpur. Over 50 Catholic lawyers together with their families and parishioners were present. Also present were several diplomats from various Foreign Missions. Read more »

Brunei Catholic Lawyers Celebrate Red Mass 2016

Brunei Catholic lawyers celebrated the Red Mass on 25th May 2016. The inaugural mass was held last year.

This year the Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit was once again celebrated at the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, Bandar Seri Begawan.

The main celebrant at the said Mass was Bishop Cornelius Sim, Vicar Apostolic of Brunei. Read more »

Here I Am, Here I Stay

These were the words penned on Peter Mooney’s columbarium nestled at the Church of St. Michael, Ipoh.

A Requiem Mass was held at the said church on 21 May 2016 organised by the CLS.

Presiding at the Mass was Rev. Father Peter Kim SJ, who had also presided at Peter Mooney’s funeral Mass on 27 April 2015. Read more »

Peter Mooney – A servant Than A Master

The family of the late Sir Dato Dr Peter Mooney arranged the celebration of the Eucharist at St Michael’s Church, Ipoh to coincide with Peter’s 92nd birthday.

The mass was celebrated by Rev Fr. Robin Andrews and con-celebrated by Rev Fr. Peter Kim, SJ on Saturday, 23rd May 2015.

Prof. Dr. Ghazali Musa, one of Peter's adopted sons, explained that although Peter’s birthday falls on 22nd May, the Mass was celebrated the following day to allow many to attend since it is a weekend. Read more »

First Red Mass 2015 Held In Malacca-Johor Diocese

Approximately 25 Catholic lawyers attended the inaugural Red Mass held at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Johor Baharu on Saturday, May 16, 2015.

The Red Mass being held for the first time in the Malacca-Johor diocese was presided by His Lordship Bishop Paul Tan.

Con-celebrants included Msgr James Rajendran, Rev Fr. Valentine Gompok OFM Cap, Rev Fr. John Baptist Yeow and Rev Fr. Michael Teng. Read more »

Fr Paulino Freed Again

Fr Paulino Miranda and 20 others were again freed on 27 March 2015 when the Court of Appeal struck off the prosecution’s appeal for failing to serve the Petition within time to their solicitors.

Rev Father Paulino Miranda was charged with 20 others that included Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, Selangor DAP state assemblymen Lau Weng San and Tiew Way Keng for taking part in an alleged illegal assembly in front of the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) building on October 9, 2008 between 9pm and 10.10pm. Living the Joy of the Gospel

Pope Francis’s Apostolic Exhortation EVANGELII GAUDIUM came to live at the Stella Maris Secondary School today.

Kuala Lumpur Archbishop Julian Leow presented the Holy Father’s exhortation to over 150 professionals, religious and laypersons.

The event was organised jointly by the Catholic Doctors Association Malaysia (CDAM), Catholic Lawyers Society, Kuala Lumpur (CLS) and Catholic Teachers Association Malaysia (CTAM). Read more »
