CLS Patron Celebrates His Sacerdotal

CLS Patron, His Grace Archbishop Emeritus Murphy Pakiam celebrated 50 years as a priest.

His Grace was ordained priest on10 May 1964. On 1 April 1995, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Kuala Lumpur. By 24 May 2003 he was made Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur. Read more »

The image of the shepherd and his sheep is part of Biblical folklore from the very first pages of Genesis.

Abel was a shepherd, as was Abraham and the other patriarchs. King David came from a pastoral background, and the best loved psalm of all is “The Lord is my shepherd”.

Selangor To Non-Muslims: All Right To Use Allah

Non-Muslims in Selangor can use the word "Allah" as long as they do not use it to propagate their religion to Muslims, Selangor executive councillor for Islamic affairs Sallehin Mukhyi said today.

He told the state assembly during a question-and-answer session that this is in accordance with the Selangor Non-Islamic Religions (Control of Propagation Among Muslims) Enactment 1988. Read more »

Christian Federation Of Malaysia: Selangor State Government Shirking Responsibility

It was reported on 2 April 2014 that the Selangor State Government had advised the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) to write to the Attorney General to request for the release of Bibles seized from its premises on 2 January 2014.

The Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) is disappointed by this apparent attempt on the part of the Selangor State Government to wash its hands off the matter. Read more »

Christ The Healer: The Cure At The Sheep Pool

On numerous occasions, Jesus healed someone on the Sabbath which provoked the anger of the Pharisees and the Scribes, the custodians of the Law.

The incident in today’s Gospel reading is another of the same.

The scene is at the Sheep Pool to the north of the city of Jerusalem. The pool was well known as a spring with medicinal waters which meant that the five porticos around it were crowded with the sick. Read more »

Irene Fernandez, Champion Of The Oppressed In Malaysia, Dies At 67

Irene Fernandez, a champion of the oppressed in Malaysia whose indefatigable advocacy for better treatment of foreign migrant workers prompted her government to denounce her as a traitor and human rights groups to shower her with awards, died on March 25 in Serdang, Malaysia. She was 67.

Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim should not abdicate his responsibility of seeking a fair and just solution to the confiscation of the 300 Malay and Iban bibles from the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) by the Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS)

Church Celebrates The Annunciation Of The Lord

In Luke’s Gospel, there are two annunciations: the angel Gabriel foretells the birth of John the Baptist to his father Zachary, and announces the birth of Jesus to his mother Mary.

No Gospel scene, with the possible exception of the birth of our Lord, has inspired so many artists and poets as the Annunciation.

Luke’s verses have since become the core of the most beloved prayer in the world, ‘the Hail Mary’, which evokes this scene every time it is uttered. Read more »

Church Commemorates The Transfiguration Of Jesus

This is a most mysterious episode in the life of Jesus, and shared with just three of his closest friends, Peter, James and John.

Jesus takes these three disciples up a “high mountain”, traditionally Mount Tabor in Galilee.
