CLS Press Statement: MP Nik Zawawi’s Remarks on Bible in Parliament Insulting to Christians

The Catholic Lawyers’ Society Kuala Lumpur is issuing this Statement to record its shock and dismay at the remarks made by the Member of Parliament for Pasir Puteh, Dr. Nik Muhammad Zawawi Bin Haji Salleh recently in the Dewan Rakyat.
On 26 August 2020, while debating the Road Transport (Amendment) Bill 2020, the Member of Parliament stated that the “Kitab Injil ini dipesongkan ataupun diubah”. Read more »

The Memorial service for George Floyd was held on 7 June 2020.
George Floyd, a 46-year old African-American man, died on May 25, 2020 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as a result of police brutality specifically due to compression of his neck and back while he was lying face down handcuffed on the street. Read more »

It is always hard when we lose someone dear. It becomes harder when that person is Rev. Fr. O. C. Lim, who returned to the Lord on 5th June 2020.
Most in the Catholic Church in Malaysia and senior members in the legal profession in Malaysia will know of his background. Let me nevertheless share a bit of Fr. OC, as he is fondly known. Read more »

The Federal Constitution makes it mandatory that before Ministers or Deputy Ministers can exercise any of the functions of his office, he must first take his oath of office, allegiance and secrecy before His Majesty, the King. [ii]

CLS 25th Anniversary Annual Dinner And Dance 2019

The Catholic Lawyers’ Society (“CLS”) held their annual Dinner & Dance in conjunction with its 25th Anniversary on the 5th of October, 2019 at the Renaissance Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
This year in conjunction with its Silver Jubilee, the Society decided to raise funds for the Positive Living Community (“PLC”). The PLC is a shelter that provides care and support for homeless men stricken with HIV/AIDS. Read more »

CLS Press Statement: SUHAKAM Inquiry Panel's Findings

The conclusion of the SUHAKAM Inquiry Panel on the disappearance of Amri Che Mat and Pastor Raymond Koh; that they are victims of enforced disappearances carried out by the Special Branch, Bukit Aman, Kuala Lumpur, is very disturbing.
The Catholic Lawyers’ Society, Kuala Lumpur (CLS) supports the call by the Malaysian Bar for the establishment of a Special Task Force to reclassify, reopen and reinvestigate the disappearance of Amri Che Mat and Pastor Raymond Koh. Read more »
